What do the camps consist of?

Our camps consist of a kitchen tent, a dining tent, tents for the clients and tents for the guides and cooks.

What kind of transportation do we use for the activities?

We use private transportation. Depending on the region, we use 4x4 vehicles or other vehicles to transport passengers.

What is the recommended season to visit Bolivia?

You can make ascents throughout the year, however, due to climate and temperature stability, it is recommended to visit the Bolivian mountains between May and September.

What is the required experience to climb mountains?

The Bolivian mountain ranges offer ascents of different levels of difficulty, the easy ones are suitable for any visitor who is in regular physical condition.

It is recommended to practice climbing techniques on the glaciers. If necessary, we can provide climbing programs for initiation and practice.
We recommend an acclimatization of at least one week at an altitude of between 4000 and 5000 meters above sea level, for which it is convenient to implement walking and trekking activities in destinations located between those heights.

Do the mountain and trekking guides speak English?

As for the English language, the mountain guides have enough knowledge to guide you and attend to emergency situations, however their conversation is not fluent.

How far in advance should I make a reservation?

We are a company that works with professional guides and we need to schedule the availability of our guides. The ideal advance notice to make a reservation, and schedule the activities is 2 months.
However, you can check the availability of our services at any time.

How do I pay for the services?

To confirm a reservation with Expedition Bolivia, we require a deposit of 50% of the cost of the trip, which must be paid in advance by money order to a bank account through Western Union. The remaining 50% must be paid in Bolivia, in cash, before starting the trip.

What equipment will I need?

To carry out our programs activities, special equipment is required.

If you have your own climbing or trekking equipment We suggest you to bring it with you, especially, try to bring your own boots (for climbing and trekking).
For mountain climbs
We provide:

  • Tent (North Face or similar for 2 people)
  • Roller mattress
  • Kitchen utensils
  • Dining tent (in the camps)
    Plastic boots
  • Crampons
  • Harnesses
    Ice axes
  • Helmets
    Leg warmers
  • Carabiners
  • Ropes

You should bring with you

  • Backpack (35lts recommended size)
  • Large travel backpack for the travel equipment loaded by porters or mules.
  • Sleeping bag (ideally for 4 seasons)
  • Hiking boots
  • Headlamp with spare batteries
  • Gloves with waterproof cover
  • Hat for the cold, hat or cap for the sun
  • Clothes for very cold temperatures (down to -20ºC)
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses with UV protection (important)
  • Water bottle
    Camera

For trekking activities

We provide

Cancellation of service and refunds.
In order to cancel a reservation or to cancel a confirmed trip or part of it, we must receive a written notice of cancellation.

In case you had made an advance payment, there is a non-refundable administrative fee of $50 per person. Since most travel costs are incurred in advance to the departure date, we will provide refunds according to the following timeline:

  • 40 days prior to departure, the balance is refunded in full.
  • 22 to 39 days prior to departure, 50% of the total balance is refunded.
  • 8 to 21 days before the departure date, 25% of the total balance is refunded.
  • 7 days or less before departure, there is no refund.

Due to the operations nature in remote areas, Expedition Bolivia, reserves the right to cancel all or part of the expeditions before the departure date for any of the following reasons: Insufficient signage, extreme conditions of bad weather, social disorder, logistical problems that make it impossible to carry out operations safely. In these cases, Expedition Bolivia is not responsible for the expenses incurred by the traveler in the preparation of his/her trip.

Tips

The amount of the tips corresponds to the client’s personal decision, who will evaluate the time shared with Expedition Bolivia members and the resulting satisfaction for the service and treatment received.
